SCIENCE DEMONSTRATIONS

Science demonstrations

Science demonstrations were organized on 12 December 2019 as a part of my science project. Inauguration of the Science demonstrations was done by headmistress of the school Mrs Shobha Dumaskar Madam at 9.00am in Science Laboratory. Along with the students of different standards, teachers of GVMs Pragati Vidyalaya Borim also visited exhibition.
Science demonstrations was divided into different sections like medicinal plant section,
 1) Physics and Chemistry experiments demonstrations,
2) Bird section,
3)  Algae section,
4) Interesting facts of birds section,
5)  Zoology section (preserved sections of different animals),
6) Body system charts
7) Mangrove section.

Mangroves:
Mangroves of 8 different types were exhibited during science exhibition. Along with mangroves plant samples; fauna (small animals) like Pila (“Konge”), “Khube”, shells were also exhibited.
List of mangroves exhibited includes 1. Rhizophora mucronata 2. Brugyra gymnorhyza 3. Acanthus ilicifolius (“Aamadi”) 4.Ageceros corniculata (“kanala”) 5.Ceriops tagal 6) Avecinea alba 7.  Avecinea marina 8. Excocharia agalocha (“Huro”) 9. Sonaretia alba (“Chib”).
Printouts of photographs all the mangroves were displayed on walls along with the mangrove poster were also displayed.
Students had more local knowledge about mangroves than me. Since Borim village is situated near estuarine region. Many mangroves grow in that region.

Bird:
Nest of different birds were exhibited during the exhibition. Poster cards of birds like parrot, cooko, hen, sparrow, peacock, etc. Feathers of different Peacock were also exhibited during exhibition. The male and female peacock feathers differs in length and color patterns. Charts of interesting facts of birds were made by Mitali of standard 8th

Physics and Chemistry Demonstrations:
Three different experiments were set during experiment namely 1.Density column experiment 2.Floating orange experiment 3. Pressing bottle experiment.

        1)  Density column experiment: The principle behind this experiment is separation of different liquids based on difference in the density. Liquids used in the experiment are water, liquid dish wash, kerosene, coconut oil.
        2)  Floating orange experiment: The principle behind this experiment is buoyant force. In the first glass containing water orange floats due to air cavities present in the peel of orange. Whereas in the second glass the orange sinks in water because the peel of orange containing air cavities were removed.
      3)   Pressing bottle experiment: in this experiment bottle full of water contains a small balloon inside it. And when bottle is pressed, the balloon goes down and when it is released the balloon comes to the original position. The principle behind this experiment is pressure exerted on the liquid compresses the air present inside the balloon hence the balloon goes down when pressed.
4)  Algae:
Algae are thallophytic plants coming under Kingdom Plantae. Algae are classified into 2 types based on the habitat they are found mainly FRESH WATER and MARINE WATER algae. Small attempt was made to exhibit marine algae in the exhibition. Four different types of algae were collected, preserved and brought to laboratory for exhibition. Marine algae are as follows:
1   .      Dictyota
2   .      Sargassum
3   .      Gracilaria
4   .      Hypnea
Stones from rocky beach on which Hypnea (Red algae) grows brought to laboratory. Printed photographs of each alga were also displayed so that students also understand it better.

Zoology section:
Preserved specimens of different animals were displayed during exhibition. Displayed preserved animals are as follows: 1.Frog 2.Sponge 3.Cockroach 4.Earthworm 5.Rat 6.Crab 7.Prawn 8.Sea horse 9. Star fish 10.Ray fish. Label for each specimen were put.

Body system models:
Different models of system were displayed along with the labels so that students understand better. Digestive system, Excretory system, Ear model, Brain model, Model of heart, Model of Pigeon, Model of Rabbit.
We got very good response from students as well as from teachers. Students of standard 6th, 7th, 8th and also primary students of standard 2nd, 3rd, 4th like our exhibition very much.
